Kim Thuy's first novel, "Ru," which fictionalizes her family's long journey from Vietnam to Québec and their discovery of their new environment, won the Grand Prix RTL-Lire at the Salon du livre in Paris, and the 2009 Governor General's Literary Award. She has since written "Mãn," "Vi," "Le secret des Vietnamiennes," "Em," and co-authored "À toi." In addition to writing novels, Kim has earned degrees in linguistics and translation and law, and worked as a farm hand, seamstress, cashier, and cook. She is also the host of "Le Table de Kim."
