Ryeberg is Toronto born, Ward 19 to be exact. Ryeberg appeared last summer back when David Miller was city mayor. Now Torontonians have a new mayor, a guy named Rob Ford. He trounced his principal opponent, George Smitherman, with 47% of the vote compared to Smitherman’s 35.6%.
This map shows how support was distributed in each of Toronto’s wards. The lighter the shade of ward, the closer the race between Rob Ford and George Smitherman.

George Smitherman — a fairly urbane politician, known to be aggressive, a member of the centre-left Liberal Party, and the first openly gay MPP elected in Ontario — gave up a cabinet post in the provincial government to run for mayor. His run is over.
And who exactly is the man who’s taken charge of Canada’s largest city? Here he is — Rob Ford — in his own words.
