I loved the dick cavett show. charlie rose is no equal. cavett was witty in an understated way. a drunk truman capote is great tv. the audience was smarter and more tolerant, ready to explore over having cultural regurgitation. wish tv was as smart and fun to watch now. guess that's why i never watch it.

Not sure if you’ve read it or not, but Cavett’s written on his NYT blog about the Mailer visit:

The attentive may have noticed that some asshole on YouTube declared that those Cavett clips "violated the terms of use," and so were removed (when are the TV people going to understand viral marketing?). So I've done my best to put different versions of the clips--the Groucho/Truman clip is a bit curtailed, but the social awkwardness remains. And poor Katharine had to be replaced with a mere 2 minute clip of furniture re-arrangement. There are still a smattering of sound-bite snippets from the 3 hour interview, for those who didn't catch it in time.
