		<description>I think you make an interesting (and sardonic) point about post 9-11 and trans-species friendship, but it made me wonder. Isn&#039;t the very particularism or peculiarity of the way in which these pairs are represented only demonstrating how &quot;un-natural&quot; such friendships are, and thus by extension as a metaphor, how un-natural cross cultural friendships are?  There may be a desire to see cross-difference friendship, but in doing so, it only reinforces how this goes against the norm, or the grain of what is &quot;normal&quot; experience.  I also think that if this is the metaphor for cross cultural relations, then we should be concerned about the impossibility of integration and hybridization that is represented--Cat/bird love can never outlive a single generation, again reinforcing its unnatural basis.</description>
