Interesting how the female body changes from Suraj to Billu. Another interesting tidbit many readers will not know is that the actor/dancer in the Billu clip is the 45-year old Shah Rukh Khan, while the woman is..um... 21 or so!

Mitu, Fine piece, as usual. It may be that in the new cultural politics of bollywood, the external dimension of collective identity – India as perceived by the world as opposed to India as perceived by Indians - has gained more prominence , thanks to the highly-mobile Indian middle class and the diaspora. What passes as Bollywood outside India then becomes a site of intense contestation. Haven’t seen anything as ludicrous as the Rafael clip in the recent past, though.
