I&#039;ve often thought (and there may be some scientific basis to this) that language acquisition is mimicry, and finding common ground must be part of the mechanism of mimicry--why it works.  The elephant in dark is about finding common ground, and in the Sufi tale (my  uncle, or rather cousin, has written about it in this book: http://www.octagonpress.com/titles/books/elda.htm) it&#039;s about finding common beliefs. Belief and mimicry--these must work in tandem when we learn to speak for the first time.</description>
